What does it mean to be a Cavalette?

The Cavalettes are a precision dance team who showcase the pride and spirit of Lake Travis High School.

The Cavalettes perform at high school athletic events — including football and basketball games — as well as community civic and social events. Each year, they travel to regional and national dance competitions; produce and star in an annual Spring Show, and enhance their performance techniques in various clinics, camps and workshops.

Cavalettes are dedicated students with high morals, standards and grades. Dancers commit to a year-long schedule as they train in physical fitness, poise, self-discipline, social awareness, responsibility, and leadership.

That’s why Cavalettes are strong and competent young women as well as skilled dancers.

The Cavalette Dance Team has performed at:

  • the opening of the 123rd Annual Rose Parade
  • AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys
  • Downtown Disney’s Waterfront Stage
  • AT&T Center, during halftime of a San Antonio Spurs game
  • Alamodome in San Antonio
  • Kyle Field at Texas A&M
  • Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium at the University of Texas at Austin
  • Floyd Casey Stadium at Baylor University
  • Frank Erwin Center for the UT Men’s Basketball team
  • Bass Concert Hall, opening for the Radio City Rockettes
  • Kilgore College for the Rangerette Revels Show

The Cavalettes have been recognized for precision, technique, choreography, presentation, and showmanship. Their awards from dance competitions include Grand Champion and National Champion Officers.

Cavalettes alumni have become members of:

  • Texas Tech Pom Squad
  • University of Texas Pom Squad

The Tradition of the Red Rubies

The Red Rubies are the junior varsity precision dance team for Lake Travis High School. The team was founded as the Cavalette program grew. Our JV dancers are equally committed to school pride and spirit.

Despite the “junior” designation, the Red Rubies keep pace with the Cavalettes’ year-round schedule. They perform alongside the Cavalettes during community events, sell programs during LTHS games, and star in their own performances during the Spring Show.

Every year, the Rubies continue to set the bar higher in regional dance competitions. Recently, they’ve earned top JV awards, including sweepstakes, judges’ awards, and Best in Class.

Each Red Ruby trains in physical fitness, poise, self-discipline, social awareness, responsibility, and leadership.

Ms. Baylis

Assistant Dance Director

Haylii Baylis started at Lake Travis High School as Assistant Varsity and Head JV Dance Director in 2022.

Previously, she ran the 5th to 12th grade dance department at Gateway College Prep in Georgetown, Texas and served as the head director for the Gateway Stars, Starlettes, and Novas.

In addition to directing, Ms. Baylis has worked for Crowd Pleasers Dance for eight years, teaching high school teams all over the state of Texas. During the competition season, she serves as the emcee for various contest sites.

As a student at Legacy High School in Mansfield, Texas, Baylis was a three-year dance officer and captain of her varsity dance team. During this time, she traveled on dance scholarships for conventions with her studio and taught dance part-time.

She joined the Orange Pride Dance Team as a student at Sam Houston State University before transferring to Texas State University to finish her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts.

While in college, Baylis danced for Michelle Keys in the Dallas Cowboys halftime show, trained with Monsters of Hip Hop, and took classes from various artists across the country.

Ms. Baylis loves teaching the students at Lake Travis and enhancing the program alongside Mrs. Payne.
